0.8% monthly increase in the national average asking price.

Yesterday Rightmove released their monthly House Price Index report, whereby they noted this has been the busiest first six months of the year, increasing prices to record high numbers. It has been noted in this time frame, there has been an increase of 6.7%, amounting to £21,289 on average across the UK.

This high demand to move across the country was due to a variation of different reasons; change of priorities, change of job, the stamp duty holiday as well as a lack of properties compared to the number of buyers, meaning a strong seller’s market. This has meant that for those looking to sell, there has been an increase of potential buyers offering over the asking price.

Rightmove has stated that there has been 225,000 less homes available on the current market compared to the long-term average, this is a figure based on the first six months of 2021 having 140,000 more sales agreed and 85,000 fewer new listings.

Properties with four bedrooms or more are seeing the largest difference with a 15% decrease in the amount of homes coming to the market compared to a 39% push in sales against the numbers in 2019. This has meant these properties have therefore increased in the past half of the year of 6.9%.
