How to use summer to highlight the best parts of your home!

The Great British summer can be unpredictable, but it can really boost the wow factors of your home when selling or letting. Not only do you have more hours in the day to show off your home, but it can make your home look bright and airy due to the change of natural light.

However, while this can be fantastic, it can also highlight things that with darker lighting may not be noticed, for example the cleanliness of the windows, the patchiness of the paint and any clutter/mess will become more obvious. You could use lighter paints to make rooms look bigger, rather than using darker colours to make it cosier but in turn will make it feel smaller.

Show off your garden’s potential! Usually, the outdoor space around your home will be the first thing your potential buyers/tenants will see, so make sure it gives a great first impression. Mow your lawns, tidy up any gravel, sweep the paths; all these tasks while seem small, will set a clean and tidy scene. If you have potted plants, vegetable patches or flowers along with seating areas, this will help potential applicants see themselves enjoying the different outside areas. If you are looking to buy new flowers, go for ones which not only suit your garden depending on which way it faces but also ones that are bright and smell strong! Why? This is attractive to our senses, naturally evoking positive emotions.

That also applies to the inside of your home, use candles or oils to make sure your home smells inviting and fresh, not like cooking or dampness. You can also place fresh flowers on tables to again bring out smells and brighten up an area. If you have animals, you can buy products to freshen the carpets, this could be something to spray just before the viewings.

Also, another way to let summer in is to keep the windows open! If you have bi-folding or patio doors, keep these open wide. Why? It will not only make the space look bigger, but it will also make the house feel cooler, airier and smell fresher (unless you live next to a farm…).
